Durga puja is not just a season of festivities, but it is an emotion that unites all the bongs around the world. Music certainly brightens up everything. One thing that mostly goes unnoticed is how the Puja special songs also play an important part in the mega galore and celebrations. Durga mahotsav is incomplete without Bengali songs. You can play the mantras during the day, or play maa’s devotional aartis in the evening.
Here are some popular Bengali songs:
Dhak baja kashor baja: It is sung by popular singer Shreya Ghosal. This melodious composition is made by Jeet Gannguli and is from Navaratri special album. The first time I heard it I simply fell in love with it. But the commercials online kept spoiling the fun so I downloaded the song from Saregama’s official website. I didn’t know they had a lot to offer in devotional song’s category. I also purchased their Carvaan mini bhakti, a mini music player. Now I play the songs every morning on this player.
Dhaker taley: You will definitely hear this song if you pass by any puja pandal in Kolkata. This is an amazing dance number sung by Abhijit. If you buy the entire album it comes with some 10-12 songs like Dev devir bandana, pran pratishta, khoma pathona etc. This should be your go-to album for the Kumkum khela which is celebrated on last day of the puja.
Aaj baje: This is massive hit amoung Bengalis not just in Kolkata but all over the world. This is from famous album Durga Puja Special sung by Somchanda Bhattacharya. It tops the playlist of every devotee who participate in Durga Mahotsav. I think this should be easily available on Saregama’s website.
Dugga Maa: This song is from a Bengali movie “Bolo Dugga Maiki”. Sung by the heartbeat of millions of young Indians, Arijit Singh. It is a treat to both eyes and ears. Its fantastic beats can force even the elders to break into a dance.
O thakur: Last but not least, the song O thakur is must-try song for this Durga puja. It is from Belaseshe. The duo Upal Sengupta and Prosmita Pal are the singers.
