The festivities of Durga Pujo starts with Kathamo Puja or Khuti Puja, a customary ritual to celebrate the day when the idol artisan starts off the sculpting process. “Khuti” the foundation stone is an inspiration, a lesson, a teacher, an idea, a thought which influences us to be positive, overcome all odds, rejuvenate, toll hard and start preparations for welcoming Maa Durga.
Khuti Puja comes from the tradition of ages old “Kathamo Pujo” or in other words the wooden frame at which the clay idol is built. The Mandaps/Pandals are the temporary pavilion that house “Maa Durga”, when she comes down to the earth.
